SYDNEY, Australia, 17 April 2010 Local resident Nat Hopping has been selected as one of a thousand young ambassadors to lead a nationwide campaign against global poverty. In May, Nat and 999 other Ambassadors stationed across Australia will unite to MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY in a Roadtrip that will rock the nation. The week long campaign will see young people speaking face-to-face with over one hundred thousand Australians in over one hundred cities and regional towns. Ambassadors like Nat will host forums, stage meetings with regional and national MPs, and take part in music events to encourage communities to speak out and participate. MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY Ambassadors will then converge on Canberra from the 12thto the 14thof May for a three day summit. The summit aims to see Australia do its fair share to end global poverty. “It is possible to bring global poverty to an end, we have the correct resources, we have the money, we have all that we need except for the right priorities!” nat The Roadtrip is being run by MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY, a coalition of over 60 aid organisations including World Vision, Oxfam, and the youth run Oaktree Foundation. The coalition has been behind a number of innovative campaigns, helping raise the profile of extreme poverty, and working to make Australia a world leader in the fight against it. In 2006 they staged the hugely successful MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY concert in Melbourne. This was followed by the ZEROSEVEN Roadtrip in 2007 - a campaign that reached 20 million people worldwide through the media. Nat says this year will be even more successful, and is calling on other young people to join the movement. Young people can sign up to join the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY in Canberra at www.theroadtrip.com.au The Road Trip is supported by the Australian Government, AusAID. |
